Drupal 7 Upgrade Complete! Here Is an Analysis
Tue, 06/14/2011 - 11:12
I just finished off upgrading both the main web design / development website as well as the blog site to Drupal 7. Quite a few things to go through in order to complete the upgrade, but now that I've done it, any other upgrades for clients' sites should go much quicker. The main thing I found out is that the "shining feature" of Drupal 7, namely its administrative overlay, completely bogs things down. I've read numerous postings (and now add mine to the fold) that suggest disabling this feature. Once I did so, everything started working as expected.
Keeping Your Web Browser Up-To-Date

Every once in a while, I have a client come to me stating that their website is "messed up". Usually that means that something doesn't look right or the layout is broken. My first question is usually what browser and what version of that browser they are using. Then I come to find out that they are using Internet Explorer 6.
Your Website Is A Model Of Your Business

Over the years, I've had a few projects land on my desk that have confounded me. It wasn't because the client was too demanding or because I couldn't pull off the work due to technical issues. Rather, it was because the client didn't have a clear business plan and therefore it was nearly impossible to develop a cohesive website that represented what their business was and did.
Drupal 7: First Impressions
Tue, 02/08/2011 - 14:13
I build websites in Drupal, which is a content management system framework. It is the backbone of the site you are viewing right now and most of the sites I've built over the past 2 years. The version I have been working with is version 6, so I was excited when version 7 officially released last month even though there's something Microsoft-y about their marketing for it. It promised to be "Easier to Use", "More Flexible", and "More Scalable".
Who (or What) is Herring, the Red

Herring, The Red is everything that distracts you from what you should really be doing. I mean really...should you be reading this blog? Probably not, but here you are. What I will attempt to do here is discuss running a single-person business as well as discuss new technologies that are directly related to what I do.
